Born and raised in New York City, pianist Vincent Ip completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree with Program Honors at Northwestern University, studying under James Giles. He also holds a Master of Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he studied with Jon Kimura Parker, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of André-Michel Schub.
He has been recognized with numerous prizes at prestigious competitions, including a Medal of Honor at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, Spain, a bronze medal at the Seattle International Piano Competition, silver at the Young Texas Artists Music Competition, and silver at the International Keyboard Odyssiad. He has also won first prizes at the Thaviu-Issak Piano Competition and the Bienen School of Music Concerto Competition. Earlier in his career, he appeared as a soloist with the Galveston Symphony, Chautauqua Music School Festival Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey.
Vincent currently runs a private teaching studio, working with over 30 students of all ages. At Northwestern University, he has also taught courses in Aural Skills, Music Theory, and Piano Pedagogy. In addition to his teaching, he maintains an active performing career and serves as an adjudicator for competitions.
Outside of his passion for music, he is a former Hong Kong figure skating champion and has toured across 35 European cities as a semi-principal figure skater with Holiday on Ice.
