MM Virtual Audition Requirements

Fall 2025 Virtual Auditions

All auditions are expected to be held in person, but applicants unable to audition on campus can request to audition by recording. Applicants should send a letter to musiclife@northwestern.edu formally requesting a virtual audition that lists the reason(s) they are unable to audition in person. Please note: Those whose instruments are prescreened must pass the prescreening round in order to request a virtual audition. If the request is approved:

  1. Submit a recorded video audition via the Portfolio section of your Graduate Application. Check your email communications for the recording deadline.  See your instrument's specific recorded audition repertoire requirements and video duration specifications below. Repertoire requirements are pulled from the audition requirements found on individual Audition & Program Requirements pages.

Important Guidelines for Recorded Video Auditions: Please Read

1. Your recorded video audition must be made in one continuous, unedited, and uninterrupted take. This mimics the live audition experience.

2. Brief pauses in between selections are acceptable, but please do not stop the video recording or leave the camera frame at any time.
