The Bienen School of Music’s Galvin Cello Quartet has been named a winner of the Concert Artists Guild’s 2022 Victor Elmaleh Competition. The quartet will receive international management with Concert Artists Guild, a New York debut performance, and participation in the CAG 360 Leadership Development Program.

Galvin Cello Quartet members are doctoral student Sihao He ’18 MMus, master’s students Sydney Lee and Luiz Fernando Venturelli ’21, and bachelor’s student Haddon Kay. They are coached by Professor Hans Jørgen Jensen and Camden Shaw of the Dover Quartet, Bienen School Quartet-in-Residence.

The annual Victor Elmaleh Competition is open to outstanding young instrumental and vocal soloists and ensembles of any nationality who do not currently have North American management representation. The finalists showcase was broadcast live on the Violin Channel on May 25, 2022 (see below).

Comprised of members from China, Brazil, South Korea, and the United States, the Galvin Cello Quartet came to recognition when, within weeks of its inception during the height of the pandemic, it captured the silver medal at the 2021 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet is named after the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall in the Ryan Center for the Musical Arts.
