Maiden Voyage—The Music of Herbie Hancock

Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 7:30pm CST

Galvin Recital Hall

Darius Hampton, conductor

Pianist, bandleader, composer, and Chicago native Herbie Hancock made a name for himself as a member of the Miles Davis Quintet. A key player in redefining the role of the jazz rhythm section and an originator of the post-bop sound, he went on to experiment with jazz fusion, funk, and electro styles. His best-known compositions, including “Cantaloupe Island,” “Watermelon Man,” “Maiden Voyage,” and “Chameleon,” have become jazz standards, and he is the winner of 14 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
