James Giles has received numerous honors and awards, including First Prizes in the New Orleans International Piano Competition, Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition, and the Music Teachers National Association Competition. He is also a recipient of the American Pianists Association Fellowship Award and a Fulbright scholar. Giles has performed as a soloist with the Jupiter Symphony (New York), London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Kharkiv (Ukraine) Philharmonic, Opera Orchestra of New York, and has presented recitals at Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, Kennedy Center. Among the many works he has premiered are pieces by Bolcom, Curtis-Smith, Hough, Liebermann, Rorem, Thomas, and Wild. Giles is the founder of the Las Vegas Piano Institute and piano division chair of the Eastern Music Festival, and a former faculty member of the University of North Texas and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He studied with Byron Janis, Lazar Berman, and Jerome Lowenthal at the Juilliard School, Nelita True at Eastman School of Music, and Robert Shannon at Oberlin College.
