EVANSTON, Ill. --- This November, Northwestern University School of Music faculty members will present an array of recitals—ranging from an eclectic mix of jazz masters to a showcase of duo-pianists.

The faculty concerts will take place from Nov. 10 to 18 on Northwestern's Evanston campus and will begin with three consecutive evenings of performances.

The first program features a five-member Jazz Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive. Joel Spencer, the coordinator of studio jazz percussion, jazz history and the jazz combo program in the School of Music, will play percussion. Spencer has performed with artists Wayne Shorter, Dorothy Donegan, Chet Baker, Wynton Marsalis, and the Count Basie Band. Joining Spencer on stage will be pianist Joan Hickey, who has performed across the globe with the Jazz Members Big Band, and Chicago trumpeter Tito Carrillo, who has performed at Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival.

Also performing will be Andy Baker, former principal trombonist of London's Covent Garden Festival Orchestra. Baker has collaborated with Liquid Soul, the Ray Gelato Giants, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, and the Hard Art Ensemble. Chicago bassist Dennis Carroll joins these faculty stars in an evening of jazz standards and originals. Tickets are $8.50 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty, and $4 for students.

World-renowned soprano Pamela Hinchman will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Lutkin Hall, 700 University Place. Known globally for her opera, festival and concert appearances, Hinchman has appeared with the Cleveland Opera, Opera Company of Boston, Chicago Opera Theatre and Belgium's Teatro de la Monaie. Her program includes J.S. Bach's Weichet nur, betrube Schatten (“Gloomy shadows, be gone!”), and Mozart's Exultate, jubilate. Hinchman will be joined by oboist Michael Henoch and the Early Music Ensemble. School of Music faculty member Stephen Alltop will conduct. Tickets are $8.50 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty, and $4 for students.

The talents of violinist Gerardo Ribeiro and pianist and School of Music Dean Toni-Marie Montgomery will be featured during a 7:30 p.m. recital on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. In addition to his work as professor of violin and coordinator of strings at Northwestern, Ribeiro has performed and recorded extensively throughout North America and Europe. Montgomery, a founding member of the Black Music Repertory Ensemble of Chicago's Columbia College, has performed internationally and in major venues throughout the United States. Their performance will feature the Divertimento from Stravinsky's Fairy Kiss Suite, Grieg's Sonata in G Major and Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata. Tickets are $8.50 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty, and $4 for students.

During the fall quarter's final faculty recital, pianists James Giles and Alan Chow will collaborate for an evening of romantic duo-piano favorites at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at Lutkin Hall. Giles is considered one of the most versatile pianists of his generation, active as both a soloist and chamber musician. Chow has performed extensively throughout the globe and has won many awards and prizes, including first prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the Palm Beach International Piano Competition and the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Tickets are $8.50 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty, and $4 for students.

To order tickets or for more information, call the Pick-Staiger Ticket Office at 847-491-5441.
