Grammy Award-winning Chicago-based quartet Third Coast Percussion premieres Bienen student compositions in this Institute for New Music event. Praised for its “commandingly elegant” (New York Times) performances and “inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune), the quartet has commissioned and premiered new works by composers including Philip Glass, Missy Mazzoli, Augusta Read Thomas, Glenn Kotche, and David T. Little. The ensemble maintains strong ties to Chicago’s artistic community and have collaborated with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Chicago Children’s Choir, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Adler Planetarium.

Located in the Ryan Center for the Musical Arts, this 400-seat hall features a 40-foot glass wall offering views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Undulating walls of Forest Stewardship Council–certified wood, covered with a thin layer of African moabi wood, provide optimal acoustics, and the hall is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and video equipment for recording.
