Praised by the New York Times for his “brilliantly realized,” “technically formidable, wildly varied” works, Brazilian-American composer Felipe Lara has received commissions from the Arditti Quartet, Claire Chase, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble, and São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, among other artists and ensembles. His compositions have been performed at prestigious festivals and venues including the Aspen Music Festival, Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts, Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, and Tanglewood’s Festival for Contemporary Music. His recent projects have included a collaboration with electronic dance music producer Jesse Houg and flutist Claire Chase that was premiered at Burning Man; string arrangements for an album by Brazilian pop artists Milton Nascimento and Ricardo Vogt (also featuring bassist Esperanza Spalding and pianist Leo Genovese), and the score for the feature film A Fera Na Selva, based on Henry James’ The Beast in the Jungle.
