Each summer Northwestern invites a select number of veteran music teachers to return to the college classroom and experience the latest concepts in music education - free of charge. Fellowship recipients choose from a wide array of classes, workshops, and ensembles on campus and further enhance their professional renewal with trips to Chicago's museums, theaters, galleries, festivals, and concert venues. The program aims to strengthen fellows' understanding of music and teaching and to deepen their commitment to the profession. The camaraderie of fellow teachers from across the nation make this a very special six weeks.

Fellowships include free tuition for three one-credit courses plus single-room accommodations for the six week Summer Session. The applications deadline is April 1, substantial teaching experience is required.

To Apply:

To be considered for a fellowship, you are asked to submit the following:

• a cover letter including home and school addresses and telephone numbers, and date of birth
• a complete resume detailing educational and teaching history
• three current letters of recommendation attesting to your professional qualifications
• all college transcripts
• essays on each of the following topics (3-4 pages, typed, double-spaced):
  1. What do you hope to accomplish during your summer at Northwestern?
     How do these short term goals relate to your professional goals as a music educator?
  2. What do you consider the most important problems or challenges facing music educators today?
     How do you see yourself contributing to the solution of some of these problems?
