Composition
Michael McBride, Coordinator
musiclife@northwestern.edu
Concentrates on all aspects of composition while giving the young composer the advantage of the School of Music's excellent resources. Students receive private composition instruction and attend seminars by noteworthy guest composers. Each student is assigned to a chamber ensemble as composer in residence and creates a work for that ensemble to perform in concert during the final week of the institute.

Private Instruction
As part of the required curriculum, students attend one-hour private lessons
weekly with our performance faculty. During this time students primarily address
technique, solo literature, and performance practice. Additionally, chamber
and ensemble literature may be coached. Private lessons are part of the standard
tuition charges and do not pose an additional expense.
