PhD Student Named to Board of Directors for
the Society for Music Perception and Cognition
EVANSTON -- Dana Strait has been named to the board of directors
of the Society for Music Perception and Cognition. She
is the first graduate student ever invited to hold this position
and will serve a two-year term.
Strait is a PhD student working under the supervision of Richard
Ashley, associate professor of music, and Nina Kraus, professor of
neurobiology, physiology, and otolaryngology. Strait’s
research interests include how music and sound are processed
in the auditory brainstem; music and emotion; and the acoustical
microstructure of affective sound. She received a master
or arts degree from Eastern Washington University and a bachelor
of arts degree from Whitworth College.
The Society for Music Perception and Cognition is the oldest
international society in the field of music cognition and is
one of the principal hosts of the International Conference on
Music Perception and Cognition.
