Pianist Stephen Hough In Residence Nov.
10-14
as Part of the Lane Piano Prize
Evanston -- British-born pianist Stephen Hough will be in
residence at the Bienen School of Music from November 10
to 14 as the 2008 winner of the Jean Gimbel Lane Prize
in Piano Performance. His
activities will include two piano master classes, a public recital,
and two classes for pianists on career issues and performance
practice.
Stephen Hough is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive
pianists of his generation. His more than 40 CDs have garnered
such international awards as Gramophone magazine’s
Record of the Year (1996, 2003) and Golden Disc (2008), the Deutscher
Schallplattenpreis, Diapason d'Or, and several Grammy nominations.
Since winning First Prize in the 1983 Naumburg International
Piano Competition, he has appeared with almost every major orchestra
and at such festivals as Ravinia, Salzburg, and the BBC Proms. As
a chamber musician he has collaborated with Joshua Bell, the
Emerson, Takacs and Juilliard String Quartets, and many other
noted artists. Among the many distinguished composers who
have written especially for him are George Tsontakis, Lowell
Liebermann, and James MacMillan. Hough is also an accomplished
author and composer.
