Seven-Concert KidsFare Series
at Northwestern Is Family-Friendly
EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Northwestern University School of Music
will present seven concerts during the 2007-08 Kids Fare series.
Starting Oct. 6, these hour-long programs, designed for children
aged 3 to 8 and their families, are performed and conducted by
Northwestern University students, faculty and guest artists.
All of the 10:30 a.m. Saturday Kids Fare programs are held in
venues on the University’s Evanston campus, as noted below.
Parking is free for all Kids Fare events.
A Family Fun Pack consisting of two adults passes and two children’s
passes to all seven concerts is $81, providing a 20 percent savings
off the single ticket prices (shown below). Each Fun Pack also
entitles the bearer to two free additional children’s passes
per concert for other siblings or friends.
Single ticket prices for each of the following Kids Fare events
are $5 for the general public; $4 for senior citizens and for
Northwestern faculty and staff; and $3 for full-time students.
First in the Kids Fare series is the Oct. 6 “March with
the Band” event being held at Trienens Hall, 2707 Ashland
Ave., just north of Ryan Field. Girls and boys are encouraged
to bring their own kazoo, tin drum or toy bugle and march along
with members of the Wildcat Marching Band during this annual
fall spectacular.
Lively percussion will combine with energetic dance routines
performed by the guest rhythmic percussion ensemble Be The Groove
during the Nov. 3 “Boom, Bam, Tap and Swoosh” concert
at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive. Children
may accompany the ensemble by bringing their own homemade or
toy percussion instruments to this event.
“A Carousel of Songs,” which will take place Nov.
17 in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, will feature Northwestern student
singers and music theatre performers. The audience will have
an opportunity to sing along during a program of entertaining
song styles.
Children and adults will revel in the sounds of a large symphony
orchestra when maestro Robert Hasty, a School of Music faculty
member, conducts the University’s Philharmonia through
a program of masterpieces during the Jan. 19 “Phabulous
Philharmonia” program at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.
Student saxophonists will celebrate the instrument’s many
possibilities during the Feb. 16 “Wild about Saxophones” concert
at Pick-Staiger. From imitating the high notes of the soprano
to the low tones of the bass, the saxophone has proved to be
one of the world’s most versatile instruments.
Northwestern student musicians will explore the world of stringed
instruments and demonstrate the graceful feats of fingers and
bows during the March 1 “Dancing on a String” concert
at Pick-Staiger.
The 2007-08 Kids Fare series concludes April 26 with “Brass
Attack!” at Pick-Staiger. Northwestern University School
of Music faculty conductor Ryan Nelson will lead the legendary
Illinois Brass Band during a performance of melodies, marches
and tunes.
To order a season subscription or single tickets call the Pick-Staiger
