Graduate Student Wins First Prize in
Percussive Arts Society Competition
Music student Dan Davis has won First Prize at the Percussive
Arts Society 2006 Marching Percussion Festival College Keyboard
Competition. He was one of 18 competitors, drawn from universities
nationwide. Davis was also the winner of the same competition
in 2005.
Recognized as one of the premier marching festivals in the country,
the festival competition is open to all high school and college
students and drumlins and takes place on two of the four days
of the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. The
first day comprises an individual competition on snare, tenor,
keyboard, or timpani and the second is made up of marching, standstill,
and small ensemble categories.
Dan Davis is currently pursuing a master’s degree in percussion
performance, studying with Michael Burritt. His other teachers
have included James Ross, John Parks, and John R. Beck. Davis
is the recipient of the 2006 PAS Armand Zildjian Percussion Scholarship
and received a Bachelors degree with Honors from Florida State
University. He has appeared as a marimba/xylophone soloist
with the Treasure Coast Symphony, the Kennesaw State University
Wind Ensemble, and the Florida State University (FSU) Summer
Bands and has performed internationally with The Continental
Brass and Singers as well as the FSU Wind Ensemble. Davis was
also a member of the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps when
the ensemble became the 2002 DCI Division II World Champions.
