Nancy Gustafson to Join Faculty of
Northwestern University School of Music
EVANSTON, Ill. --- Dean Toni-Marie Montgomery today announced
that soprano Nancy Gustafson has been appointed to the faculty
of the Northwestern University School of Music, beginning fall
2006. Gustafson will assume the new faculty post "artist
in residence," which will be formally approved by the Northwestern
University Board of Trustees in June.
Nancy Gustafson is one of today's leading sopranos. She has
appeared in Europe's major opera houses, including the Vienna
State Opera, Covent Garden, and La Scala, and has also performed
with the London and BBC Symphonies. In the U.S. she has sung
leading roles at the Metropolitan, San Francisco, Los Angeles,
Houston Grand, and Chicago Lyric Operas and next season will
make her debut with the New York Philharmonic. Her many recordings
include Das Rheingold under Christoph von Dohnányi; Symphony
No. 2 by Mahler, conducted by Zubin Mehta; and La
Bohème under Kent Nagano.
A native of Evanston, IL, Gustafson received a bachelor’s
degree from Mount Holyoke College and a master’s degree
from Northwestern University.
