Nancy Gustafson to Join Faculty of
Northwestern University School of Music

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Dean Toni-Marie Montgomery today announced that soprano Nancy Gustafson has been appointed to the faculty of the Northwestern University School of Music, beginning fall 2006. Gustafson will assume the new faculty post "artist in residence," which will be formally approved by the Northwestern University Board of Trustees in June.

Nancy Gustafson is one of today's leading sopranos. She has appeared in Europe's major opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden, and La Scala, and has also performed with the London and BBC Symphonies. In the U.S. she has sung leading roles at the Metropolitan, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston Grand, and Chicago Lyric Operas and next season will make her debut with the New York Philharmonic. Her many recordings include Das Rheingold under Christoph von Dohnányi; Symphony No. 2 by Mahler, conducted by Zubin Mehta; and La Bohème under Kent Nagano.

A native of Evanston, IL, Gustafson received a bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College and a master’s degree from Northwestern University.
