Northwestern University Plans Feb. 14 Memorial Concert
for Bill Karlins

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Members of the Contemporary Music Ensemble and other musicians will gather at Northwestern University’s Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, for a tribute to the late M. William “Bill” Karlins, who was a faculty member of the University’s School of Music for nearly 35 years.

Mr. Karlins joined Northwestern’s composition faculty in 1967 and taught in that department until his retirement in 2001. He was a versatile composer whose output ranged from large orchestral and chamber works to solo and choral pieces. Karlins created works commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the American Chamber Symphony and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Joining Northwestern’s Contemporary Music Ensemble for this special memorial will be the Chicago Saxophone Quartet; alumnus, Indiana State University Music Professor and saxophonist Paul Bro; and School of Music faculty members who include flutist Walfrid Kujala, pianist Elizabeth Buccheri and conductor Ryan Nelson.

Pick-Staiger Concert Hall is located at 50 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus.
Concert tickets are $8.50 for the general public, $7 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff, and $4 for students. To order tickets or for more information, call the Pick-Staiger Ticket Office at 847-467-4000 or Pick-Staiger’s Hotline at 847-467-PICK.
