Associate director of orchestras. Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra and Philharmonia, Robert Hasty is a teacher, adjudicator, clinician, and violinist. In addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate conducting and music education courses at Bienen, he is also music director of the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra and an artistic director for the International Schools Choral Music Society. He was formerly conductor of La Primavera Orchestra, Merit Symphony Orchestra, Irvine Youth Symphony, and Metropolis Youth Symphony, as well as vice president of string education for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association. Hasty’s research interests include investigating critical listening while conducting, about which he has presented at the international meeting of the European Society for Cognitive Sciences of Music. Hasty studied conducting with Victor Yampolsky and violin with Alice Schoenfeld.
