Background
Chicago Music College
Richard Boldrey has been a member of Lyric Opera of Chicago staff since 1981. He served as maestro and assistant to Carlo Bergonzi at the Bel Canto Festival in Busseto, Italy. He is the former music director of both the Colorado Lyric Theatre Festival and Opera Southwest (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and the former assistant conductor of Opera Midwest (Evanston, Illinois). He is responsible for reestablishing the Opera Workshop program at North Park College. He co-directed the Bold Lion Center for the Performing Arts. He is a former head of University of Illinois' opera department and former music director of the University of Iowa's opera department. Currently, he is music editor of Singer's Edition, a multi-volume opera anthology. He authored Guide to Operatic Roles and Arias and Guide to Operatic Duets.
