Julie Beauregard
Background

Julie Beauregard is an elementary general and world music specialist. She taught K-12 general and choral/vocal music in New York and California public schools for 8 years, and has worked with preschool through adult students in numerous community music school settings. Currently a candidate for the PhD in Music Education at the Eastman School of Music, she is concurrently completing an MA in Ethnomusicology. The 2010 recipient of the Presser Music Award, she has conducted fieldwork at the Dagara Music Center in Ghana, West Africa, where she examined music teaching and learning processes while studying gyil (a traditional xylophone), drumming, and dance. A frequent presenter of research and workshops at local and regional venues, her areas of interest include embodied knowledge and expression, identity construction, preservice music teacher education, and intercultural music transmission.
