Admission to the Northwestern University School of Music is based on musicianship, scholarship, and personal character as demonstrated in:

• completed application
• high school transcript
• Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT),
  Home-schooled applicants must submit the results of three SAT Subject Tests: Math Level 1 or 2 plus two tests of the applicant’s choice. They must also submit the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with Writing Test results. For those planning to study science or engineering in addition to music, Math Level 2 is preferable.
• recommendations from a high school counselor and a music teacher
• performance audition

Transfer students for fall entry must apply for admission by May 1. It is recommended that auditions for these students be scheduled in January and February. Transfer students for winter entry must submit an application by November 1 and audition prior to that date through the Undergraduate Office of Admission and Financial Aid (musiclife@northwestern.edu)
