Facilities

The school's facilities comprise 97 individual and small-ensemble practice rooms, more than a dozen performance spaces, four large ensemble practice rooms, and four computer laboratories.

Pick-Staiger Concert  HallPick-Staiger Concert Hall
The 1,003-seat Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, opened in 1975, is recognized as one of the finest concert halls in the Midwest. Housing the offices of the University orchestras, Pick-Staiger also offers three professional series.

 

Music Library
The Northwestern University Music Library is among the nation's largest music libraries and is distinguished internationally for its extensive holdings of printed music and archival materials documenting music composed since 1945. The library offers roughly 300,000 volumes of books, printed music, sound recordings, and journals; maintains subscriptions to over 400 periodicals and a full array of online resources; includes thousands of music manuscripts and pieces of correspondence; and houses the archives of John Cage and other notable musicians. Additionally, the Music Library's computer lab (pictured) provides a multi-purpose workplace for beginning- to mid-level music-technology projects. The library serves the Northwestern University School of Music, the entire Northwestern University community, and researchers from around the world.

Music Administration BuildingMusic Administration Building (MAB)
The Music Administration Building was completed in 1874 and houses administrative offices, classrooms, the Department of Music Studies, University choruses, the piano program, and the opera program. The building includes multimedia classrooms and digital studios for composition and multimedia authoring. The majority of the studios and practice rooms are equipped with the highest quality Steinway grand pianos.

Regenstein Hall of Music
Regenstein Hall of Music is home to the Department of Music Performance and University bands faculty. Also a popular practice site, the building boasts a 200-seat master-class room that hosts hundreds of performances and other events each year.

This 400-seat performance/lecture space offers performers a choice of two superb Steinway concert grand pianos.
