Founded in 1863, the City of Evanston is situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan, 12 miles north of downtown Chicago. The city is home to a diverse population of approximately 74,000 who enjoy the benefits of small-town living while having easy access to the riches of a major urban center. Evanston's quaint, tree-lined streets are dotted with older houses, colorful shopping venues, and fine restaurants. An excellent public transportation system enables easy travel around town and beyond.
