Richard Graef has served as assistant principal flute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1968.  He is a specialist in baroque flutes and baroque repertoire, also serving as flutist with the Chicago Pro Musica, which received a 1985 Grammy Award in the category of  Best New Classical Artists.  Graef studied at Oberlin Conservatory and the Mozarteum Academy of Music in Salzburg.
