Title:  University Chorale: 70th Annual Christmas Concert - Handel's Messiah
Description:  Robert A. Harris, conductor; members of Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra The most famous oratorio ever written, Messiah was largely composed over a three-week period in 1741 and was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742. The work is a meditation on the idea of the Messiah, and thus some of the text is derived from the Old (rather than the New) Testament, including the Psalms. Later parts of the oratorio then offer episodes dealing with Christ's birth, suffering, death, and resurrection.
